Quick Biscuits

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup vegetable shortening (Crisco)

  • 2 cups self-rising flour

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter

Optional Toppings:

Honey

Strawberry Preserves

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 425°.  

  2. Cut shortening into flour using a pastry blender or a fork until crumbly.  Add buttermilk, stirring the mixture just until moistened. 

  3. Pat dough to ½-inch thickness; cut with a 2-inch round cutter. Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet. 

  4. Bake for 14 minutes or until golden. 

  5. Remove from oven.  Brush the hot biscuits with melted butter. 

  6. Serve hot biscuits with honey or strawberry preserves.
