Rolled Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup golden sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2½ cups All-Purpose flour

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • decorator sugar crystals

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°. Beat butter with mixer until creamy; gradually add sugar, egg and vanilla; mix well. 

  2. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to butter mixture, beating just until blended. 

  3. Shape dough into a ball, cover and chill 1 hour.  Divide dough into thirds. 

  4. Work with one portion of the dough at a time, storing remaining dough in refrigerator until ready to use. 

  5. Roll dough portions to 1/8-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. 

  6. Cut with a 3” cookie cutter and place on lightly greased cookie sheet.  Sprinkle with sugar crystals. 

  7. Bake 8 minutes or until edges of cookies are lightly browned.  Cool slightly on cookie sheet, remove to wire racks to cool completely.
